Free, feather-light, open source Javascript Html Editor - Speck Edit
Friday, October 03, 2008
After looking around the web and considering other javascript html editors I've found that while there are some very good products out there they seemed to have two problems. One, they were not nearly as "light-weight" as they claim to be (I guess thats a relative term) or two these editors just did way more than I needed for my application. After much frustration I finally decided to build my own which was better suited for smaller needs, or integration with other applications. There may be more of you out there who are having the same problem so I've decided to release the new editor along with its source code for you to modify, or use as is on your site. Speck Edit includes only four files when deployed to your site:
Version 1.0 of these four files only total 31kb in size uncompressed and commented. Of course, the minified, packed, gzipped versions are much tinier. I hope you find Speck Edit useful. Please let me know if or how you are using it and if you'd like to see anything special added. I'll be continuing development on this project and expect to be able to improve the core functionality and continue to make the editors footprint smaller in future versions. It is definitely functional with an ajax page. You may open and close multiple speck edit windows without issue, just be sure to call speckClose(); To set the content of the speck window after it has been loaded call: iEdit["textareaId"].initEdit(content); Where content is the raw html to load into the text area.
Bernadette Perrin-Riou - France, Europe - Friday, April 03, 2009 2:42 PM I find very useful SpeckEdit : very light and doing the essential. I would like to integrate it in the logiciel WIMS (http://wims.auto.u-psud.fr/wims for example) which is on GPL licence. Is it possible (I don't see a licence here) ? Thanks very much Mohammad Ashfaq - Asia, World - Wednesday, August 26, 2009 3:16 AM Nice Editor but just picture uploading is remain. Md. I would like to verify the code provenance and license status, and learn any tips you have on modifying/extending the function. I would not mind registering in order to find your contact info, but the sign-in page does not have that option. I'll watch here for your advice.
